How many years have you been in the school business profession?

Five

How did you first learn about and then become involved in the school business profession?

My mother-in-law is currently the Treasurer/CFO at Tri-River's Career Center. After having some engaging conversations with her about my background and about the profession, it felt like a great fit. I had honestly never thought of it before, but I couldn't be happier with how it has worked out.

What is your proudest career accomplishment?

My progression in my career in general, going from a data analyst in Columbus City Schools, to the treasurer of a 600-student school (Ridgedale Local Schools), to Elgin Local Schools with 1,100 students. Meeting and getting to work with and learn from people at each stop has been rewarding.

What do you feel is the most important part of your job?

Engaging with all the stakeholders from the board, superintendent, principals, and staff to the community as well to ensure we are staying fiscally responsible and on the same page (or at least reading the same book).

What is one thing you feel makes your district unique in the state?

Being a small rural school with roughly 1,100 total students, we are still able to offer a Digital Media Center - Maker Space where our students can explore their creativity with devices such as 3-D printers. The media center also houses a book vending machine where students can spend reward coins given to them for positive behavior and other things. We are blessed as a small district to be able to bring these kinds of opportunities to our students.

What is at the top of your professional bucket list?

Becoming a trusted leader who not only my district can rely on, but other treasurers can rely on as well. Also, using that trust to help build the profession for future generations.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

I collect Ohio State Autographs and memorabilia.

If you were an animal, what animal would you be?

A lion

Favorite TV Show?

NCIS (The perfect blend of teamwork, action, and humor)

Favorite Movie?

All the Rocky Movies (I love a good underdog story)

Favorite Food?

Prime Rib

What is one of your favorite expressions?

Teamwork makes the dream work.

When someone finds out what you do, what's one of the first questions they always ask you?

How did you become a school treasurer? Most people just assume it is as simple as having an accounting degree (which I don't have), and they don't realize what it takes to get a license and all the liability that comes with having the job.

What has been the best, or your favorite part of being involved in OASBO?

My favorite part of being involved with OASBO and the profession in general is the camaraderie and collaboration of everyone involved. Being able to ask questions of the community and receiving engaging responses is invaluable.
