How many years have you been in the school business profession?
Twelve years
How did you first learn about and then become involved in the school business profession?
I was working in an accounting office while having a young family with crazy hours. Then I answered a job posting for an A/P position at a school. I was hired at South Range Local School District as the accounts payable coordinator, and the treasurer there said I should get my treasurer's license.
What is your proudest career accomplishment?
My proudest career accomplishment is probably getting my first treasurer's position a couple of months ago. I've had my license for several years but waited till my kids were older before taking on a treasurer's position.
What do you feel is the most important part of your job?
I feel the most important part of my job is to be completely transparent while also being helpful and understanding to my staff and students.
What is one thing you feel makes your district unique in the state?
We are a very small school in a little town, and yet our community spirit is very big. Every month, the area businesses have meetings about things they can do to improve the area and new businesses they can create. I'm always impressed by how big the ideas are for such a small town; there are lots of opportunities. I'm proud this is where our students get to grow and become successful.
What is at the top of your professional bucket list?
To retire, lol! I'm not sure what the future holds, but right now I'm just learning something new every day, it seems, trying to soak it all in.
What is something your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?
I'm very good at roller skating.
