How many years have you been in the school business profession?

24 years

How did you first learn about and then become involved in the school business profession?

I first learned about the school business profession when I accepted a position that was advertised as a payroll and accounts payable role because I was interested in pursuing a career in accounting. At the time, I did not fully understand the breadth of the school business field. Once I began working in education finance, I quickly realized that my skillset could make a meaningful impact on students and schools, even outside of the classroom. I discovered that strong financial management and operational support can help create opportunities and advantages for kids by ensuring schools have the resources and stability needed to support student success.

What is your proudest career accomplishment?

One of my proudest career accomplishments was representing my district during a presentation to a ratings agency in New York City. At the time, the experience was intimidating—not only because of the importance of the presentation itself, but also because of the setting. Sitting in a conference room on the 38th floor in New York City was something I had only ever seen on television and never imagined I would experience professionally.

Despite feeling nervous and intimidated internally, I was able to remain composed, professional, and confident throughout the presentation. In the end, I received compliments on how well I represented both myself and my district. That experience was meaningful to me because it reminded me that growth often comes from stepping outside of your comfort zone and rising to meet opportunities that initially feel overwhelming. I was proud that I could contribute in a meaningful way to something important for my district while demonstrating professionalism under pressure.

What do you feel is the most important part of your job?

The most important parts of my job are consistency and accuracy. Without both qualities, it is difficult to build and maintain trust with staff, peers, the board, and the community. People rely on school business officials to provide information that is dependable, timely, and correct.
Consistency in communication and decision-making helps create stability, while accuracy ensures credibility and confidence in the work being done. I believe trust is one of the most important foundations in school leadership, and it is earned through being reliable, transparent, and detail-oriented every day.

What is one thing you feel makes your district unique in the state?

Northwood is unique for many reasons, but one aspect I am especially proud of is the longevity and commitment of our staff. At every level of the organization, we have individuals who have dedicated many years to serving the district and community. That level of commitment creates a strong sense of stability, pride, and connection that makes the district feel like home for both staff and families. The relationships that have been built over time contribute greatly to the positive culture and sense of community within Northwood.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

One thing colleagues are often surprised to learn about me is that I am naturally a very shy person. Because my role requires me to regularly communicate, present information, and work with a variety of stakeholders, many people assume I am naturally outgoing. In reality, stepping into leadership situations and public-facing roles has been something I have intentionally worked to grow into over time. That experience has helped me become a thoughtful listener, well-prepared communicator, and someone who understands the importance of building strong relationships with others.
