How many years have you been in the school business profession?

6

How did you first learn about and then become involved in the school business profession?

Prior to being a district treasurer, I was an auditor for the Ohio Auditor of State's office. I audited several local governments, including my local school districts. One day while at an audit site, I had a treasurer ask me if I had ever considered this as a profession. I loved the idea of less traveling and a better work-life balance. I took my classes and never looked back!

What is your proudest career accomplishment?
Getting the Treasurer position at the district I graduated from in 2009. It feels great to give back!

What do you feel is the most important part of your job?

Being an advocate for Ohio students. It is very easy in our roles to get lost in the dollars and cents and forget what they represent. I find it extremely important to be involved beyond just the finances to remind myself why I work so hard.

What is one thing you feel makes your district unique in the state?

We are a small district in rural Appalachia. Our community is very proud to operate 5 small community based schools. Also, because our district is 170 square miles of farm land, if you add up all of our bus routes miles each day we could drive to central Florida and back every single day.

What is at the top of your professional bucket list?

To get more involved at the state level and be a voice for small rural schools. Opportunities are often so limited for those in my area of the state.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?
I am an avid Duke basketball fan! Go blue devils!

If you were an animal, what animal would you be?

A chocolate lab (just like my dog)

Favorite TV Show?

Everybody Loves Raymond

Favorite Movie?

The Sandlot - you're killing me smalls!

Favorite Food?

Apple Dumplings

What is one of your favorite expressions?

In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

When someone finds out what you do, what's one of the first questions they always ask you?

Do you get summers off?

What has been the best, or your favorite part, of being involved in OASBO?

The willingness to share and learn. This is a great career and everyone is always so willing to help you out!
