How many years have you been in the school business profession?

4

How did you first learn about and then become involved in the school business profession?

I worked for the Ohio Auditor of State for 5 years and as a result worked with many districts in the central region of Ohio.

What is your proudest career accomplishment?

I am proud to have earned my CPA license. It was challenging but well worth it.

What do you feel is the most important part of your job?

Lately, advocating for public education as a whole has felt more important than ever. It’s critical to understand the current and emerging pressures public schools face and to use data to support what we know is best for the future of our state, whether that is to the public, colleagues, legislators, or even our friends and families.

What is one thing you feel makes your district unique in the state?

Columbus City Schools is the largest district in the state. Because of our size, I often say that making changes here feels like trying to turn the Titanic; progress is possible, but it takes time and coordination.

What is at the top of your professional bucket list?

The next item on my bucket list is earning my PMP certification. After that, I’d like to pursue an MBA if the timing and opportunity make sense. Long term, my main goal is to remain committed to continuous learning. I believe growth comes from staying curious and always being willing to adapt and improve.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a bit of a gambler. I like to keep the stakes low but still enjoy playing the game and taking the risk whether it’s sports betting, blackjack, or just cards with friends at home.

If you were an animal, what animal would you be?

A raven

Your favorite expressions?

"Happiness does not depend on outward things but on how we see them." -Leo Tolstoy

When someone finds out what you do, what's one of the first questions they always ask you?

When people ask what I do, I usually say, “I’m an accountant.” The most common follow-up is, “Oh, so you do taxes?”

What has been the best, or your favorite part, of being involved in OASBO?

The networking opportunities OASBO provides are outstanding, and the ability to connect with other districts to both offer and receive support is truly invaluable.
