How many years have you been in the school business profession?

17 years. 9 years as Treasurer.

How did you first learn about and then become involved in the school business profession?

I switched later in life. A friend was hired at Princeton City Schools and the hours sounded much better than the job I had in the private sector so when they had an opening I applied.

What is your proudest career accomplishment?

I’m proud of our track record of Auditor of State awards, but I couldn’t do that without the help of my entire department. It’s a team effort.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Honestly, I love all parts of my job. I love being part of career tech education. I love seeing juniors and seniors come to school excited to learn a skill and graduate with good-paying jobs! I love seeing the impact our Adult Education programs have on people’s lives and the community. I love building relationships with business and industry leaders in my county who recognize the importance WCCC plays in workforce development and their success. I love it all.

Who is your hero?

My parents are my heroes. My Mom is the kindest, sweetest, and most generous soul you could ever meet. My Father is incredibly smart with a great sense of humor and adventure. Even though I fall short, I strive to be like them.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

I was a certified scuba diver at the age of 10 thanks to my Dad.

If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?

A Quokka because they’re known to be friendly and they’re always smiling. Unlike me, however, they seem to like having their picture taken.

If someone wrote a biography about you, what would be the title?

I suspect my family and friends would suggest “Chatty Cathy” for the title.

What would be on the gag reel of your life?

There would be a lot of tripping and falling. I’m fairly accident-prone.

What has been your favorite part of being involved in OASBO?

The excellent professional development opportunities and conferences have always been a favorite part of my OASBO membership. This past year, however, I participated in the OASBO Leadership Institute. It was extraordinary! If you have a chance to participate in the Leadership Institute do it! You won’t regret it.

Why should someone get involved?

In addition to professional development, you gain great friends among your peers.

Where should someone start to get involved?

Attend a local chapter meeting and start to form ties with people who work and live near you.
