The Ohio Attorney General’s Office (AG) will award nearly $11 million in school safety grants for the current academic year from state funds appropriated in the last budget bill (HB 33 of the 135th General Assembly).
The AG will disburse funds on a first-come, first-served basis and advises schools to apply promptly. No applications will be considered after May 30, 2025.
Eligible uses of funding include the following:
- Certification training for school resource officers.
- Active-shooter response training or equipment.
- Educational resources for all grade levels.
- Training to identify and assist students with mental health issues.
- School supplies or equipment addressing school safety plans.
- Systems with immediate camera access for law enforcement.
- Silent panic alarms.
- Gunshot detection technology.
- License plate reader alerts for vehicles of registered sex offenders.
- Alert systems warning of dangerous wanted individuals.
- Other training addressing school safety.
School leaders may apply for either or both traditional, per-pupil-funded grants and/or larger, project-based grants until funds are exhausted:
- Formula-based grants of up to $2,500 or $4.50 per student, whichever is greater. Find more information and apply HERE.
