How did you get involved in the school business profession?

I actually started as a business teacher and I did my internship with Carrie Herringshaw at Penta Career Center, and following education, I was able to get my foot in the door as an assistant treasurer and move on from there.

What is your proudest career accomplishment to this point?

I think to this point it is actually getting my foot in the door for that first treasurer job, that was always a goal of mine, and probably the most difficult thing is to try to let somebody give you that first chance. I'm grateful that Evergreen has done that for me.

What do you feel is the most important part of your job?

I think the most important part of my job is keeping the board up to date and communicating with them on things that are going on, and potential things that could be coming down the line soon.

What's one thing you feel makes your district unique?

We have about 1,150 kids and we are stretched over 133 square miles, so we are a smaller school, but we are big on the map.

What’s on the top of your personal bucket list?

Someday I would love to learn more about farming. I think being out at Evergreen has taught me that it's a huge community of farming, and it has piqued my interest.

Who's your hero?

I think one hero or one person that I look up to outside of my family would be Dave Ramsey. I'm a big, big personal finance guy, and I really like his values that he has on personal finance.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

My wife and I own an ice cream store. It's a seasonal business and we have just wrapped up our 14th year. It's a lot of fun, and it takes a lot of time to do it but it's very community-oriented.

How many years have you been an OASBO member?

I think I've been an OASBO member for about four years.

How or why did you first get involved?

I became a member for the networking and getting to know people, and just the learning aspect of trying to stay up to date with everything that's changing in our field right now.

What's been the best or your favorite part of being involved in OASBO?

For me, being a first year treasurer, the mentoring program has helped me out. Joyce Kinsman from Swanton was my mentor. It was just nice to have a dedicated person to ask any question any time of the day or throw some potential issues or challenges that I was facing. Just nice to have somebody there dedicated to help me out.

If you were an office supply item, what would you be?

If I'm an office supply item, I'm going to try to be a staple to keep everybody together or a paperclip and keep everybody together.

Favorite TV show?

Anything Ohio State Football related.

Favorite movie?

My favorite movie would be “Shawshank Redemption.”

Favorite food?

Ice Cream

Favorite activity outside of work?

I love to be outside. Spending time with my wife and kids and anything to do with mowing or taking care of the lawn.

When someone finds out what you do, what do they always ask you?

Sometimes people ask about taxes. That would be the most common question, real estate tax questions.
