How did you first learn about and then become involved in the school business profession?
I was in accounts payable at Fremont City Schools and our treasurer at the time, Matt Feasel, had taken all of his office staff down to the [OASBO] Annual Workshop. At the conference, I talked to about three different treasurers from the northwest area who encouraged me, because I had a four-year degree, to pursue my treasurer license. That’s what I did, and three years later I had my license.
What's your proudest career accomplishment to date?
Being named Treasurer of the Year.
What do you feel is the most important part of your job?
The most important part would have to be finding the balance between the needs of the students and the needs of the district in terms of the financial impact, and trying to make that all cohesive and come together.
What is one thing you feel makes your district unique in the state?
I think our district is unique in the fact that we have many things to be proud of for a small district. For instance, our speech and debate team had a number of students participating this year, and for our small size, that is incredible. I believe there were 17 who moved on. We are a powerhouse in wrestling. And we had two wrestlers who finished in Division Three as state champs. We also have the academic challenge team that is eight consecutive years winning in our area. So lots of those kinds of things, both academic and athletic that we have to be proud of.
What’s on the top of your professional bucket list?
To write a book. I'm not sure what that book would be about, but to write a book.
What’s the top of your personal bucket list?
It used to be swimming with dolphins, but I did that. So, I would have to say now it is probably doing some type of whale watching trip.
What song best describes you?
Probably Brown Eyed girl.
If someone wrote a biography about you, what would be the title?
This is easy. “Stop me before I volunteer again.”
What would be on the gag reel of your life?
That's another easy one. My sneezes because I'm very famous, or infamous, for my sneezes. Everybody knows me by my sneeze.
What fictional character would you most like to meet in real life?
I would have to say probably Mr. Big.
How many years have you been an OASBO member?
I have been a member for 18 years.
How did you first get involved in OASBO?
I first got involved at the recommendation of my mentor and some other treasurer groups around, who said it’s the best thing that you can do to help you get through the first few years as a treasurer.
