How many years have you been in the school business profession?

16 years.

How did you first learn about it and then become involved in the school business profession?

I used to be a cosmetologist. I had a school treasurer who would come in to get his hair cut, and we would talk about his job. I became intrigued and decided to find out how I could become one myself.

What's your proudest career accomplishment?

I'm building a beautiful new K-12 building for Ayersville.

What do you feel is the most important part of your job?

Being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars

What makes your district unique?

Being a smaller district with less than 800 students, we’re unique because we are able to have a pool.

What is at the top of your professional bucket list?

Becoming a board member for OASBO and helping to lobby for what's best for public schools.

What's the top of your personal bucket list?

To be able to travel to all 50 states.

Who is your hero?

My mother. She has gone through a lot in her life, and she has always been able to come out victorious.

What is something your colleagues would be surprised to learn about you?

Growing up, I wanted to be a hairstylist. The only reason why I actually went to college is that I was at the top of my class and had a scholarship. So I decided to go for business management because I figured it would help me with my salon. Then I took my first accounting class and realized I was in the wrong profession.

If you were an office supply item, which would you be and why?

It would be a rubber band. I feel like no matter how thin I get stretched, I manage to keep it all together somehow.

What is your favorite TV show?

“The Rookie”

Favorite activity outside of work?

My favorite activity outside of work is spending time with family. It doesn't matter what we're doing, whether it's playing board games, laser tag, golf, etc… it doesn’t matter as long as we're together. That's what matters.

How many years have you been an OASBO Member?

I've been a member for 11 years.

Why did you first get involved?

I had some great mentors when I was an assistant at Defiance City Schools. Eric Beavers was a chapter officer, and I believe Pam Harington was on some OASBO committees. They inspired me to get involved. I also wanted to be able to give back to the profession because I was so grateful for everything that the membership has given to me.

What roles or positions have you held with OASBO?

The better question is, what haven't I done for OASBO? I went through the ranks as a chapter officer for the Northwest Chapter. I am on the Professional Development Committee, the Annual Conference Track Session Committee, Audit Committee, AOS Committee, Legislative Committee, and Ed Finance/ODE Advisory Committee.

What's been your favorite part of being involved in OASBO?

All of the friends that I have made throughout the state. The importance of networking cannot be stressed enough.
